If you’ve been following us during the last weeks, you will have noticed that in Europe there are plenty of events dealing with the wine industry. In this panorama, the International Wine and Spirits Fair of Vinitaly, which will take place in Verona from April 7 to 10, is a worldwide undisputed reference point for the wine industry.
Vinitaly is the event that more than any other has traced the evolution of the national and international wine industry, one of the most exciting and dynamic realities of the primary sector today. At Vinitaly, the excellence of the Italian production is spread and promoted all over the world thanks to the presence of visitors from many foreign countries (156.000 visitors and delegations in over 60 countries) coming to attend one of the most qualified event of the the sector. Vinitaly hosts over 4,000 exhibitors including manufacturers, distributors, importers, winemakers, opinion leaders and restaurateurs, who want to find a place for meeting, discussing and creating new business opportunities, within an event that always meets expectations.
A little piece of history
Vinitaly started his adventure in 1967, with the Days of Wine hosted at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia. In the late Sixties and early Seventies, Vinitaly becomes a real trade exhibition with many collateral events dedicated to the wine and food industry. At the end of the Seventies the fair gets the title of “international” and opens the door to the participation of foreign companies. This qualification will then be confirmed and re-launched since the Nineties until today: Vinitaly “has conquered” United States, Russia, China, Japan, Korea and India.
Vinitaly is held concurrently with Enolitech, the Exhibition of technologies for viticulture, oenology and technologies for olive growing and olive oil and Sol&Agrifood, which provides a comprehensive overview of the entire chain of wine, spirits, oil and food production. Since the Nineties various competitions have been disputed during Vinitaly, in particular the International Wine Competition (today the most selective and participated one in the world, with an average of 90 medals awarded on more than 3,600 wines from some 30 countries) and the International Packaging Competition, rewarding the best finished bottles of wine. Finally comes Vinitaly for You, a young and pleasant event dedicated to wine lovers, to taste the best wines in the beautiful setting of Palazzo della Gran Guardia, in the historic heart of Verona.
Vinitaly 2013: internationalization and on-line commerce
The year begins with a rebranding of Vinitaly in the World – the project initiated by Veronafiere to promote the excellence of Italian wines in the world – that becomes Vinitaly International. A further confirmation of the role of the fair as ambassador and partner for the development of national business worldwide. For the 2013 edition the presence of foreign buyers has been more and more enhanced, thanks to an agreement with ICE, the Institute for the Internationalization of Italian companies abroad. But the internationalization is promoted through other channels too: VinitalyWineClub, a digital platform for promoting and selling online, conceived as the virtual extension of the physical exhibition, will be be launched during the fair. The first 100 wineries to join the project will be those selected by the Wine Spectator magazine, that will be the protagonist of a tasting event in the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona.
