Fattoria il Lago is an ancient farm located in Dicomano at 30 kms from Florence.

The Farm with its almost 400 hectares of land spreads in the wine growing area of Chianti Rufina once belonged to the antique noble Florentine family – the Marchesi Vivai-Bartolini-Salimbeni.

In 1962 the property was taken over by the “Spagnoli” family who with their strong and long experience in the construction field started the vast and continuous process of restoration of both the patrimonial estate and that of the agronomic aspect giving particular attention to the wine growing sector and directing their choice to autochthonous species of wine in particular the “Sangiovese”.

The farm with its 21 hectares of vineyards grown on the best slopes at an altitude between 300 to 600 metres above sea level assumes almost mountainous characteristic which can be found in the production that reveals a feature of extreme elegance and freshness.

Three types of wines are created on the estate. The “Chianti Rufina” quoted as the top wine of the farm, a simple product but pleasant for its delicate characteristic. The “Chianti Rufina Riserva” a red wine with a sturdy structure and longevity and the “Pian de’ Guardi” which is the absolute highlight of the farm and by the usage of particular methods has managed to reveal the vast potentiality of the farm’s terroir.

The farm’s philosophy animated by a remarkable severity in the production of its own wine has established to constantly raise the quality; first of all through a significant and accurate work in the vineyard and successively in the wine cellar.

The other farm products that are produced in a limited quantity deserve to be mentioned briefly as our “Vinsanto” which is aged in characteristic casks. The “Grappa” which is exclusively distilled from the residue of grapes from the farm and the extra vergine olive oil with its delicate characteristic sensory.

Other productions and other activities create the structure of the farm such as a suggestive “Borgo” of houses dated year ‘600 which are destinated to farm holidays – a wildlife game reserve and a lake for fishing.
